One of the goals of this project is to engage the public in the issues of conservation, such as, for example, the conservation of the lowly, but no less important, Erioderma lichen.

The tool for this process is this website itself. This topic is dedicated to ways we can increase user involvement.

One of the effetive ways to engage website visitors is through a participation feedback system. One example of such system is Most Active Members of NL Nature section of the front page. It shows top 5 most active members of the NL Nature.

The way top 5 most active members are determited is by using our in-house algorythm. The algorythm is dynamic, and we are modifying it as the project evolves and new participatory patterns are discovered.

Some of the highlights of the current algorythm:

1. The level of participation is weighted based on the significance of the user contribution. Singhings are important to the project, and currently they recieve the greatest weighted value.

2. Frequency is part of the algorythm

3. Number of visits and intervals between visits

The process of computing the top 5 is relatively resource intensive, and is performed at varying time intervals. Thus, there is a built-in time lag.
