5 or 6 of these Small Gulls very Near the shore on the Shoal Harbour side of the Causeway to Random Island.

it is only the second time i have been able to ID this species. I suspect that I have seen them in winter plumage more often though.

I think the prevalence of those gulls are more common than we think. a lot of times I mistake them for immature Black-legged Kittiwakes, or other small gulls. especially if they are not close for a definite ID or have a camera handy so we could examine the pics. Still a very good sighting.

you are most likely correct Sam. Looking at both the winter and summer plumage at the same time leads me to believe that I have seen more of this species in the past.
