verry strange ? and a patch of this was as big as a truck or bigger ?

This lichen is commonly referred to as "Pink Earth" (Dibaeis bayomyces, or Bayomyces roseus in older literature). It can be abundant on bare soil along roadsides, and is most obvious following a rain when the apothecia are at their brightest pink colour.)
