Grape vines (genus 'Vitus') aren't native to Newfoundland, but they easily spread by layering when their limbs drop to the ground and are buried by snow and natural debris. They root quickly. So, it can be argued that they've naturalized to a certain extent, although they aren't an invasive introduction. I've seen medium sized grapes on vines in September (without the benefit of a greenhouse) in the Codroy Valley and St. John's. No doubt they are found elsewhere as well in Newfoundland.

The vine in the last image is 11 or 12 years old, variety Niagara. It was shipped from North Vancouver to Newfoundland in the mail, 10 days across Canada, packed in a box with moist peat moss. It produces grapes each year, even without much cultivation.

That's pretty neat that they can do so well without a greenhouse. I am going to keep an eye out for them.

Little grapes are beginning to form. I'll get a photo.
