Flowering Chuckley pear, 'Amelanchier canadensis,' also known as the Indian pear, and the Serviceberry. It's been 18-20C (in the shade) in the Codroy Valley for the last 3 days, and many plants are now flowering. This Chuckley pear was transplanted from Mt. Moriah (Corner Brook) to the Codroy Valley about 30 years ago. Birds love the purple berries in autumn. There's a hard to see head cap on the tree for scale - the tree is about 3-4 metres, 10-12 ft tall. Wikipedia doesn't seem to list this species in Newfoundland. I'll do an edit.
