Perhaps 'Flavoparmelia caperata' because of the granular soredia and it was found on a tree (as opposed to a rock), a White spruce (~80 years old - it blew down)? Or 'Flavoparmelia baltimorensis?' Or another species?

Marnhull, I guess I will wait for Mac to pass his verdict before classifying it...

That's what I was thinking too.

I missed seeing this photo until now, sorry. It indeed looks like Flavoparmelia caperata, which can be reasonably common in the Maritimes, BUT has yet to be listed for NL. I hope to take a closer look at some of this material to confirm an ID during my upcoming field season. A very good find! Mac

Thanks Mac for all of your identifications and comments. Boreal Felt Lichen is my Holy Grail, but nothing like it yet. It's unfortunate about the resolution of the images, but they're much smaller on the NLNature website than they are on my computer screen. I don't know if Roman can change this or not (to allow for larger and more detailed images to be uploaded to NLNature)? Otherwise, I can uploaded them to Picassa for you to study.

Hi again Marnhull, Coincidentally, I've recently asked Roman et. al. the same Q re: resolution. One other Q - with some sites there is the ability for members to private message (by e-mail)each other. I wonder can this be facilitated with nlnature? I would be interested in seeing higher rez of some of your pics and possibly visiting sites of unusual species. mac

Thank you for the suggestions. I do need to consult with other NL Nature facilitators, but at this point I think an ability to private message with an option to upload the file is probably the best option. Hi res images may put too much burden on the resources of the website. I could be wrong, and I will definitely look into it in the next few days.

Mac, I tried Picassa, however it doesn't seem to allow my largest resolution images (12 megs). I can send you my highest resolution images as soon as I have your email address. If you like, and Roman allows it, you can email me at aeolis57atyahoo.com. I'll reply from my regular email address (my yahoo account is for email that comes with spam). BTW, the lichens in my images are on private land. I don't know anybody who will allow lichen hunters on their land, but I might be able to suggest suitable tracts of nearby crown land.

Many thanks Roman. Marnhull, I will PM you at the provided address. Cheers, mac

Thanks Roman. I've made contact with Mac and he can receive images from my computer. BTW, Roman? Are you from Kazakhstan? Did I see that somewhere online? It's not the same country I know, but I've been to Kiev (but not any further east in Europe).

Roman, I sent this lichen to Mac Pitcher, and he has identified it as 'Flavopunctelia flaventior.'
