Wrinkled Shield Lichen (Pannaria lurida)

Wrinkled-Shield-Lichen.jpgPannaria lurida – Wrinkled Shield Lichen - one known site for NL is in SW Newfoundland, in coastal White Spruce scrub forest, on White Spruce stems and branches. Found on both live and dead branches, usually in association with Lobaria pulmonaria (also in picture). Occurs as small rosettes up to toonie size. Less than 5 NB sites and 6 NS sites. In Maritimes, only known to occur on deciduous trees (usually Red Maple). May also occur on Trembling Aspen.  The species is considered nationally as a high-priority candidate species (for assessment) by COSEWIC.
